PROFILE OF MR STEVEN CHEAH - MASTER TRAINER & FACILITATOR


Mr Steven Cheah is the Founder / Master Trainer / Managing Director of CSH Knowledge Management Sdn Bhd. He brings with him 25 years of working experience in the general insurance industry having served in various capacities in underwriting, reinsurance, survey, training, marketing and broking operations.


He began his insurance career as a Motor Underwriter in 1979 with South East Asia Insurance (now Uni.Asia). In 1982, he joined Guardian Royal Exchange (now AXA Affin Assurance) as the Risk Surveyor where his key job responsibility is conducting fire, burglary and liability surveys and recommending risk improvement measures for the mutual benefits of the Insurer and the client. In 1985, he was admitted as the Associate Member of the Australian Insurance Institute now Senior Associate of Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance & Finance (ANZIIF).

Four years later, he was offered the post of Fire Underwriter in British American Life & General Insurance Berhad (now John Hancock) where he was responsible for underwriting, quotation, policy processing and handling insurance inquiries. From 1986 to 1988, he served as a Committee Member of Fire Protection Association of Malaysia (FPAM).
In 1989, he moved to Sime AXA Assurance Berhad (now MNI) to take up the post of Head of Survey Unit responsible for submission of risk to MNRB Technical Rating Committee for special rating as well as conducting Pre-Loss & Routine Inspections. With his survey exposure, he was given additional responsibilities to manage the Property Underwriting Unit which involved the assessment and underwriting of property risks. In 1993, he lectured part time for The Malaysian Insurance Institute on various insurance subjects.

As a person who loves new challenges, Steven requested for an internal transfer to the marketing / broking departments in Sime AXA which he served from 1994 till 1996. During this period, he serviced a large group of agents, financial institutions and insurance brokers.

In 1997, Steven joined the Pacific Insurance Berhad as the Head of Reinsurance & Survey Department reporting directly to the CEO. In 1998, he sat and passed the Certificate in Training Practice (CTP) and was duly admitted as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, United Kingdom (ACIPD) one year later.

Having obtained the necessary qualification and working experience in the insurance industry, Steven decided to venture out on his own in 1999. His area of specialization is property insurance (including motor) and risk survey but he is equally competent in lecturing engineering insurance, liability insurance, general insurance claims handling and Reinsurance subjects. To add value to his status as an all rounder, Steven is also trained to deliver management training and soft skills programs such as Profile Management, Towards Peak Performance, Effective Debt Collection, Performance Appraisal, Goal Setting, Presentation Skills and Training Needs Analysis. He is currently, an Associate of The Malaysian Institute of Management (AMIM).

In year 2000, Steven enrolled for the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Mina Management Institute (in collaboration with the University of Hawaii, US) and graduated two years later, majoring in Human Resource Management to add to his long list of qualifications and achievements.

Currently, Steven is actively conducting training courses to both local and overseas insurers, either through the “on demand” programs or public training programs organized by CSH from time to time. He is comfortable in delivering the training in English or Bahasa Melayu.
